Prof. Francesc Illas is a Full Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Barcelona. He spent several periods at IBM Almaden Research Center and Los Alamos National Laboratory and was invited professor at Universita’ della Calabria (Italy) and Université Pierre et Marie Curie (France).

He received several awards, was elected Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences (2009), of the Academia Europeae (2017) and is the recipient of the 2022 Medal of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry.

His research involves application of theoretical and computational chemistry methods to surface chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis.
